of Cill Rialaigh near Ballinskelligs in Kerry.
Wednesday @ 8.30pm
Ireland has over 60,000 townlands, with each one operating as an administrative centre for the wider community.
In this series, Síle Nic Chonaonaigh visits townlands across the country, investigating the strong connections people have with their native places, through the culture, the ways of life, and the landscape.
Episode 10: Cill Rialaigh – Wednesday @ 8.30pm
Cill Rialaigh near Baile na Sceilg in South Kerry is a townland steeped in history, going right back to pre Christian times. We meet with descendants of the people who lived in the pre famine village and those who have been heavily influenced by its beauty and culture, such as singer Tim Dennehy and poet Paddy Bushe. Sadly, only one family remains in the townland but it is still full of life and is now a hub for artists including Linda Graham currently on retreat at the artists village in the refurbished stone cottages run by Cill Rialaigh Arts Centre.
