Síle meets people from the townland of Camus Uachtair in Conamara
Repeats Saturday @ 5.55pm
Ireland has over 60,000 townlands, with each one operating as an administrative centre for the wider community.
In this series, Síle Nic Chonaonaigh visits townlands across the country, investigating the strong connections people have with their native places, through the culture, the ways of life, and the landscape.
Episode 2: Camus Uachtair – Repeats Saturday @ 5.55pm
In this week’s episode, Síle is in Camus Uachtair, a townland in the Connemara Gaeltacht, 30 miles west of Galway City. Its 60 inhabitants live mostly around the coastline, and beside Cnoc Chamuis.
Episode 3: Machaire Rabhartaigh – Wednesday @ 8.30pm
There are roughly 100 houses in Machaire Rabhartaigh, with a population of over 200 inhabitants. The ‘Machaire’ strand stretches for three miles out from the coast, leaving little wonder as to why this community has such a strong sea-faring past.
